John Douglas – Managing Partner
John’s approach to his practice is to share with his clients his wide and varied knowledge and experience as an Executive Human Resources Professional and Solicitor, specialising in Human Resources Strategy and conflict management in the workplace. This ensures the best possible outcome for his clients.
Prior to joining Maddison & Associates as Managing Partner in July 2016, John was General Manager Human Resources at ASX 200 company, Spotless, from 2012 until 2016. He led and implemented a change in and delivery of the HR strategy, restructured the Department to reflect the contemporary strategy and improved delivery of the HR Service to the business. At the same time he represented Spotless in all IR negotiations and in the Courts and the Fair Work Commission.
He managed the Human Resources function for another ASX 200 company, Healthscope, from 2006 until 2012, having initially established that function. He had provided legal services to that organisation for a number of years prior to taking up that role.
Prior to Healthscope John established a legal firm providing human resources, employment and industrial law advice and representation of employers in a number of industry sectors. He has been Principal Employee Relations Adviser to Southern Health and Legal Counsel for Service Industry Advisory Group and the Australian Industry Group. He was also employed in Senior HR/IR roles for Kraft Foods, Telstra and construction firms.
He was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1992. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts.
Maurice Addison – Founding Partner Barrister & Solicitor
Maurice successfully established Maddison & Associates in 2009. Since that time he has regularly advised and appeared for clients in all jurisdictions at both state and Federal levels.
Maurice has been engaged in workplace, industrial and employment law at senior levels for 25 years as an advocate. Primarily for employees and the union movement until he was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor after which time he has broadened his practice to represent both employers and employees. He has also broadened the scope of the practice to include a more diverse range of services to clients.
He was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2007, having had had many years’ experience in industrial relations with the AMWU as a senior union official. His experience is predominantly in general manufacturing and construction. He has also spent considerable time and been involved in many issues in various industry sectors such as:
* Power Generation
* Health
* Oil
* Vehicle manufacture/auto components
* Government Sector
* Graphic Arts
He has conducted negotiations, advised and implemented strategies to achieve outcomes on industrial matters under awards and agreements including litigating were necessary. Maurice holds a Law Degree which he completed in 2003.
He has represented clients in the Fair Work Commission, the Federal Court of Australia, all of the State Courts, the Federal Circuit Court, the Family Court and VCAT. He has worked in private legal practice since leaving the AMWU in 2005.
